TuneUp (2.7.0.1) Fails to Sync iTunes Library on Launch

TuneUp accesses your "iTunes Library.xml" file to read and make changes to your music library "iTunes Library.itl file". If either of these files become corrupted or contain errors, TuneUp may experience issues when performing its processes. Please follow the instructions to try rebuilding your music library:

1.) Quit iTunes
2.) Locate your iTunes folder (this is the folder that contains the iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml files).

Mac OS X:  Users > [your username] > Music

PC:

  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
  • Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
  • Windows 7: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
  • Windows 8 & 8.1: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
  • Windows 10: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\

3.) Open your iTunes folder.

4.) Drag the "iTunes Library.xml" or "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the Desktop. (This is your back up copy and should be kept until the process has fully completed and verified)

5.) Open iTunes

This process forces iTunes to create a new, fresh copy of your iTunes XML file.

Does this resolve the issue?

If you are still experiencing issues or if iTunes does not re-create the iTunes XML automatically, please read the following Apple discussion.

Whats even worse is that every time I submit a request, they send a standard response, and then mark my 'request' as "solved." Which is a load of crap.

Ponchard is lying... I just re-downloaded and installed the latest version of tuneup and it still doesn't work.... Ponchard, you're a POS.

@Thomas Lutz - He didn't say there was a new version of tuneup; he said there was a new version of iTunes, which there is.
I was running version 12.7.0 and now there's 12.7.1. I just finished upgrading and tuneup works again.
    So thanks @Ponchard.

OK, so I installed the latest version of iTunes, reinstalled TuneUp, and launched both. iTunes launches, TuneUp launches and completes the sync operation. After about 15 seconds, TuneUp shuts down with an unexplained error. Is anyone else experiencing a similar situation? I've submitted a problem report to Support to no avail. Any suggestions???
    Thanks -- Ray

OK... came home from work. Decided that today would be the day that I would make TuneUp work. Yesterday I updated iTunes (those fiendish bastards! I hate them!) and today I deleted everything about TuneUp and started fresh,

Been 25 minutes and the TuneUp window is still saying that it is syncing with ITunes (those bastards).

I have noticed that the "analyze" feature does work. Can't do a darn thing with it afterward but it seems to work.

So I am going to allow this to run for a while and see if anything happens besides the "estimated time remaining bar" twitching on the screen.

The part about this that is MOST frustrating, besides iTunes (those bastards!) is that there has been no email, no support update, zip, zilch, nada. If iTunes (those bastards!) updated something, I can understand that TuneUp might need a little buffing up to handle the changes.

But let us know TuneUp! I'm a reasonable person (except with iTunes (those bastards!)) and if you tell me that you're working on the problem and perhaps a time frame, I'm good with that. Communicate!

I uninstalled this POS software years ago and am still repairing all the damage it caused to my iTunes library. When it worked. I feel sorry for anyone who paid money for this recently. It has never worked reliably since version 3.0 (2013) when they screwed it up so bad they gave up and another company took over. The 'solution' back then was to downgrade to the previous version 2.4. They offered me a refund back then, I should have taken it.

    John G -
I have noticed some damage to my music files from then the program worked. Just today I heard a tune on my iPod (I hate those bastards!) that was mislabeled by artist. Maybe it's time to cut my losses and go back to manually fixing the library and swearing at iTunes (those bastards!).

I also gave up on today's effort to get it to work. After two hours of "syncing to iTunes (IHTB!) library, I packed it in.
    Chu hoi.

Yeah, I'm extremely disappointed with the way the current owners are dealing with the customers requirements. I have a library of over 250,000 titles and it's still growing. I rely on this software. All I want is the software to work as advertised. it's gotten to the point of frustration that I'm looking at other options. Suggestions???

I was having problems with TuneUP after updating to iTunes v12.7.4. Tune up would not appear when starting up either by its self or when starting iTunes. The only way I could get it to appear on my screen was by going into Windows 10 Task Manager and clicking on Maximise TuneUp. Once on the screen it would just sit there and not sync with my iTunes Library. This problem only came about after updating to a newer version of iTunes, so I uninstalled iTunes and installed an older version that downloaded from here: https://www.filehorse.com/download-itunes-64/old-versions/page-2/
TuneUp now works as it should. It seems that just about every time Apple updates iTunes they cock something up that stops Tuneup form working.

Having the same issue as always when iTunes updates... TuneUp no longer works... The updates always seem to break the program.
iTunes version 12.7.4.76 is the current version.
TuneUp 2.7.0.1 is the current version.
    TuneUp doesn't work.

On iTunes version 12.7.4.76, TuneUp version 2.7.0.1 and Windows 10 64bit. Endless "Syncing with iTunes" Progress Bar left it on overnight thinking maybe it's just slow. Woke up to the same shit.

The thing that worries me most about TuneUp is when you submit a support question and they ask you for your tuneup version on the list... version 2.7.0.1 is not even there. Is anyone still working in TuneUp? Why can't they add the newest version to the list.

Same problem here, Edwin. They emailed me saying something was wrong with their servers. But I always get the BS automated email saying that my problem is resolved by checking the "share xml" box in iTunes... They don't update their software and they customer service leaves something to be desired.
I might just switch to Apple Music and not even worry about using a third party software to tag my music.

I have a lifetime licence and can't even get tuneup to work. It is pretty sad that they are still selling this software and it doesn't even work with the latest version of iTunes. I loved this software when it worked. I just don't get how they can feel right about selling software that doesn't work. It went from awesome software to scamware. The least they could do is stop selling it until it is fixed.

Tag774 it is great software and works until Apple update iTunes, which they seem to do almost weekly now. We all like to have the latest version of software on our PC's but unfortunately to get tuneup working again you have to install an older version of iTunes, at least this is what I had to do and so now when iTunes informs me that there is an update I do not download and install it as I know it will cockup tuneup.

David Thomas, thanks but not an option. Outdated software introduces security risk whether it's iTunes, Tuneup, or some other piece of software. In my opinion I think its better to say this used to be great software but no longer. I finally gave up on it and uninstalled it.. to much of a headache for paid software. It's actually disgusting that it can still be purchased and doesn't support the newest versions of iTunes. How many people are going to buy this and spend hours trying to get it to work with no luck. How many people want to leave outdated software on there computers which in turn could cause security vulnerabilities or miss out on the latest features... not to many in my opinion. Don't get me wrong.. if they ever update tuneup I will quickly reinstall it. Untill that happens though, good by tuneup :(

So I assume this has officially fallen on deaf ears at TuneUp Media. This has been an ongoing issue for over 3 months now. I have opened a ticket with no response. Are we sure they're not run by the same guys who pushed out the crap version before the split?

Hi all don’t know what I’ve done exactly but got it working.
    1) unconnect tuneup from iTunes
    2) connect to WMP run connect to WMP close and reopen tuneup then failed to sync with WMP unconnect
    3) reconnect to iTunes and its working been ok for a couple of days
    See how stable it stays

    Syncing with iTunes...
    iTunes 12.7.5.9
    Windows 10

I turned on TU logging then noticed this in C:\ProgramData\TuneUpMedia\TuneUp.log

Looks like the TU app is trying to access www.maniadb.com and it's not responding to DNS lookups...so TU just sits and waits. Anyone know anything about the maniadb server and why it's off-line?

TU never finishes Syncing with iTunes 12.9. Uninstalled TuneUp. Removed the two Tuneup folders one in c:\users\myaccount\appdata\Local and other in Roaming. Reinstalled Tuneup and re-registered. It resync'd with iTunes and began to work again with a few quirks in accepting keystrokes in GUI on matched results.

The following steps worked for me to get Tune Up for iTunes working again on my Windows 10 machine:

    1. Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x86) and (x64) 2013
    2. Uninstall iTunes
    3. Uninstall Tuneup
    4. Restart
    5. Rename/Move files "iTunes Music Library.xml" and "iTunes Library.itl"

    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
    • Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\
    • Windows 7: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
    • Windows 8 & 8.1: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\
    • Windows 10: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes\

Make sure these files do not exist in this directory before you start iTunes again. iTunes will automatically recreate these files the next time you run it. You will lose your favorites and play counts.

    6. Download and install iTunes 12.7.1 from https://www.filehorse.com/download-itunes-64/old-versions/ - As far I can tell, this is the latest version of iTunes that works with Tune Up
    7. Restart
    8. Download and install Tune Up 2.7.0.1 for iTunes from https://www.download3k.com/Install-TuneUp.html
    9. Restart
    10. Start iTunes. If your music files are not in the default directory, update the iTunes directory in menu item Edit | Preferences - Advanced tab. Then go to menu item Files | Add Folder to Library and navigate to that directory; click Select Folder

At this point, everything started working for me!
    Don't ever upgrade/update iTunes again! lol :`(
